Gamma Knife Treatment Workflow ?

1. Frame-based workflow with fiducial based registration

2. Mask-based workflow with stereotactic CBCT based registration

This is a common GK workflow when using frame-based fixation and an MRI with localizer to identify the target and establish a stereotactic coordinate system for treatment.  In some instances, a CT may be used for the stereotactic image set and co-registered to the MRI during planning.

This kind of workflow is probably what the majority of our highest volume centers are using especially if they are neurosurgical driven and for the treatment of the smallest targets where rigid fixation is of highest concern.

It is a key workflow for zero-delay treatment where all treatment step are performed on the same day.

Indications to be Treated with Gamma Knife

For example, when reviewing what referrals you may get when aqcuiring a LGK they stretch from functional neurological disorders to brain mets. The patient’s own advocacy in their treatment option is also growing rapidly and a lot of referrals comes from the patient’s own request.
